Documenting our Heritage

News paper clipping from the New York Times, July 22 1920

The Station Officer-William Kidney

Forgotten Duty

The coast guard station had a short life, only 10 years. The tower structure at the right of the building appears to be semi-fortified.

Derelict Beauty

The structure appears to have been extended and modified. (notice the ornate stone window surround) It’s not clear if the structure was totally abandoned after it was burnt by the IRA or if some further rebuilding and occupation occurred after this event.

Missing Walls

The structure is in a poor state, no sign of the roof remains.

Large sections of the walls are missing.
