The Hell-Fire Club
Mount Pelier, Dublin
-interior-
Documenting our Heritage
The Devils Dungeon
The only entrance to the structure is from the front, we move inside and enter the room to the left.
The walls are dank green, moulding and festering. The location feels ‘not right’, shadows press in on us.
Hell-Fire
We move across to the other ground floor room. Sun light illuminates the otherwise incredibly gloomy interior.
The moulding green walls seem unnatural.
Central Staircase
We move up the central staircase to the hall rooms upstairs.
(locals tell they will not pass to the upper floor of this structure)
Devils Depravity
The hall rooms upstairs were the focus of the Hell-Fire club activities. Devil worshiping, sexual debauchery, excessive drinking, pornography, wenching, banqueting, gambling and all manner of outrageous behaviour.
Unholy Walls
Green mould lines the inside walls, the atmosphere is incredibly dark and dank. We are grateful for the bright day outside.
One can only imagine how dark and oppressive this structure must be in the night time.
The Back Chamber
The back chamber lies to the rear of the building, accessed behind the central staircase.
One story about the club concerns a young Bohernabreena farmer, who curious to find out what went on at the meetings, climbed up Mount Pelier one night. He was found by the members of the Club, dragged into the building and allowed to see the nights' activities. He was found the next morning wandering around the area, unable to speak and tradition says he spent the rest of his life deaf and dumb, unable even to remember his name.
