We travel across to the opposite end of Bere island to explore some of the smaller gun batteries - there are many gun positions protecting the entrance to the Berehaven anchorage

Documenting our Heritage

The gun positions follow the same layout as Berehaven Fort

The targeting tower

As before a concrete pillar housed a compass - bearings were taken on any potential target and the guns aligned to fire on the target accordingly.

Down to the ammunition stores - steps lead down to vaults under the gun positions were the shells were stored - again shell lifts were employed to winch the shells up to the guns above.
