Documenting our Heritage

Gothic Wonder

Ardfry was renovated in 1826, updated with gothic features including the entrance doorway and battlements on the end pavilions.

The Entrance Hall

We enter through the (missing) front door and explore the interior

The house is totally derelict - many of the interior features were destroyed in the making of the film The Mackintosh Man, staring Paul Newman when the house was burnt.

Ivy Doorway

Ivy spreads and covers many of the interior walls.

This house must of been truely splendid in it’s time.

Enter Ardfry

The house is totally abandoned and derelict.

(Planning permission has been granted for redevelopment)

Mackintosh Man

Some remains of the window frames still exist from when the house was refitted for the making of the film - and then burnt!

Blake’s Ruin

Ardfry house was the residence of the Blakes, one of the 14 tribes Galway.

One of the eccentric Blake owners was known to walk around the house naked carrying a cowbell to forewarn the maids.

Sixty Pounds

Ardfry was valued at £60 at the time of the Griffith’s Valuation.
