Velvetstown House was built by Christopher Croft in 1875 a short distance from the old Croft family home.

The Italianate style house was constructed in yellow polychrome brick, six bays at the front with a two bay breakfront. 

The house was occupied for only twenty years before being destroyed by fire on the 22nd December 1895.
