Shurock House,

Co. Westmeath.

Shurock House was built around 1760 by Mr Richard Homan with a later gothic wing added around 1810 to the western end of the house. The gothic wing features two storey towers to each end and various curios gothic details and motifs.


The Shurock estate appears to have been in the possession of the Homan family since the middle of the 17th century.


Reverend Philip Homan, married  Mary Ann Thomas, daughter of George Thomas of Rathfarnham, their son William Jackson Homan who firstly resided at Shurock House and then at Dunlum House, Westmeath with further estates at Clifton House, Youghal was created a Baronet on August 1st 1801.


The Homan family moto ‘Homo Sum’ is translated as ‘I am a man'
