Documenting our Heritage
Moorehall,
Mayo.
Page 4
The basement is a summer time breading ground for a protected species of bat.
- It’s still early spring time but I take no chances and keep very quiet so as not to disturb any wildlife.
This tunnel runs behind the house and opens up half way along to give access to the rear yard.
Just moving a few metres away from the house and it’s already starting to disappear into the trees.
This gateway gives access to the old walled garden.
The walled garden has been planted with forest giving the place quiet an eerie feel.
Its time to pack up our gear and move on.
Moorehall is in State ownership and the house grounds and surrounding forest are open to the public (free). Access to the interior of the house is restricted but it’s still well worth a visit if you are in the area.
If you do go, please keep quiet and respect the bats!
