I head down to explore the basement

We stand by the ruin chatting about its past...

Willie Giltrap spent his childhood growing up right on the demesne grounds.

He recalls a few tales to me - The lawn at the front of the house was referred to locally as

‘the pleasure grounds’ even with the house in ruins. Willie isn’t exactly sure why but he remembers catching courting couples in front of the house! Teenagers also used to picnic on the overgrown lawns.. they used to hide snacks, beer and cakes in the basement, unaware that Willie and his brothers knew their hiding places only too well.

The snacks were apparently raided a few times!

It’s been great having a peek around Kilmorony.
