We head back into the daylight
Some of the basement windows are being replaced by the OPW.
Fine cut stone to match the existing pieces.
This appears to be the kitchen. There’s a substantial fireplace here in the western end of the basement. Another vast ruined fireplace is on the opposite side of the room
The brick work is remarkable.
Jigginstown was one of the first houses in Ireland to be built of red brick. The bricks were said to have come from Holland and then hand carried by a chain of hands which stretched all the way from Dublin to Naas.
There’s still some evidence of the formal gardens, these ruined steps lead up to a avenue of trees.
We pack up and head to our next destination - leaving Jigginstown just as we found it.
