St Ann’s Hydropathic Establishment,
Co. Cork

I’ve just found this place shown on an early map. It appears to have been a vast sprawling structure covering a huge area, but cross referencing it too modern maps there seems to be absolutely nothing left of the place? I’ve got about two hours before I have to be somewhere, so on the spur of the moment I throw my gear into the car and head off to investigate.
It doesn’t take me long to locate the clock tower - see it shown in the top left of the print above.
The lower area of the Establishment is now farmland, with what’s left of the remaining buildings covered in dense undergrowth. There’s really not much left of this place!
The clock mechanism is long gone... but the clock faces hang there stuck in a forgotten moment as a testament to Dr Barters work here on St Ann’s Hill.
