Fisherstown House,
Co. Laois.
Documenting our Heritage
Fisherstown House was built around 1820 by Mr T.L.Kenney. The house is two-storeys, five bays at the front and with a bowed entrance front.
In 1842 the house was occupied by George Anderson, but by 1911 the house was again being occupied by the Kenny family.
The 1911 census records Robert Kenny, age 49 as the head of the house. Robert was accompanied in the house by his brother George Kenny, age 45 and nephew Eddey Wildney, age 9. Robert and George farmed the surrounding land. They employed a house keeper: Kathrine Meley, age 69 and one domestic servant: Marey Roberts, age 15.
Robert Kenny died unmarried around 1948, after which Fisherstown House fell into disuse.
