Dunamase Castle,
Laois
It’s a wonderful walk up into the battered remains of Dunamase
The view stretches out across County Laois for miles around
This is the remains of the 13th century rectangular tower - made of massive masonry.
A square tower remains to the west.
As pointed out by a prominent archaeologist, the two lintel sections over the arch are of different design.
This is probably a 15th Century addition.
Dunamase is the first stop - it's a busy exploring day ahead so it's time to crack on!
I quietly pack up and head off to the next location.
