This plaque, just inside the castle front entrance reads:

SIR GERALD AYLMER KNIGHT AND BAPRONET AND DAME IVLIA NVGENT BVILT THIS HOVSE 1624

DESTROYED BY FIRE IN THE WAR OF 1641

REBUILT BY SIR FITZGERALD AYLMER BARONET 1773

REPAIRED BY SIR GERALD GEORGE AYLMER BARONET 1827
