Cavetown House,

Co. Roscommon.

Documenting our Heritage

Cavetown was originally owned by the Mahons. Arthur Mahon a Reverend who was descended from the Mahons of Strokestown was residing at Cavetown House in 1814. However in 1830 the estate was put up for sale and purchased by a Guy Lloyd. Cavetown House is noted at the first Ordnance survey of the area as 'A gentleman's seat of two stories' and the property valued at £5.

This is the very last photograph I take at Cavetown House.

I’ve got my eye on that bull as I set up my tripod, the bull starts to stamp his feet.. 5 seconds later he starts to run.. I run as fast as I can and dive over a hedge! It’s a close call!
