Castle Warren,
Co. Cork.
Documenting our Heritage
Built by the Warren family in 1796 over the remains of an earlier castle - Barnahely Castle.
Barnahely Castle is said to have been built by Milo de Cogan, one of the early Norman settlers. Barnahely Castle was occupied by the archdeacons of Monkstown before the Warrens purchases the lands and erected the Castle Warren mansion house.
Robert Warren sold Castle Warren and the surrounding lands in 1851 and moved to Moyview, Sligo where he studied bird life. In 1890 a book on the birds of Ireland, was published under the names of Ussher and Warren. Robert Warren died in 1915.
I would really like to see any early photographs of this place in better times
