Castle Oliver,
Co. Limerick.
Page 3
Declan leads me up a spiral staircase and we walk out onto the battlements.
That’s Oliver’s Folly on the hill in the background, built as a ‘Gothic Eyecatcher’ during the time of the earlier house.
The monogram of the architect George Fowler Jones resides on the gable end.
Jones completed a number of commissions for the Oliver-Gascoigne sisters.
He named his first child “Gascoigne” after them.
I’m standing here on the roof of the game keepers lodge.
The roof of the stables just in front of me is original but the rest of the castle roof has been completely replaced - at a cost of way more than your average semi-d !!
