Ballingard House was the home of  Alexander O’Connor the founder of The Roscommon Messenger newspaper.


Alexander O’Connor’s fourth daughter, Charlotte O’Conor Eccles, born in 1860 became a famous writer and journalist. She started off writing Irish Periodicals, and then moved to London where her work became much more prominent. Charlotte also wrote under the pseudonym ‘Hal Godfrey’.


Her books include: The Rejuvenation of Miss Semaphore (1897), Aliens of the West (1904) and         The Matrimonial Lottery (1906)
